mode (also known as MODE Z) which is a new FTP standard, co-developed by NSC,
to increase network throughput and decrease transfer times. The system
compresses file and system data using the same
technology found in ZIP utilities and can dramatically reduce the
amount of FTP traffic on your network (see chart below).
Less data is encrypted and fewer secure renegotiations
